Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
I was 9 years old when my family moved to another country for the second time, and this time, it was for good.
Life took us to a borrowed house where we stayed while adjusting to this new life.
It was a wooden house, with cold air seeping through every crack, and the creaking walls made it feel like the roof could collapse at any moment.
The house was located in a pasture, which is a sort of small farm.
There wasn't a bathroom as we know it, but we had a TV :) and that was quite a luxury back then.
I spent many hours watching cartoons like Bobby's World, Zazoo U, and of course, my favorite: Beetlejuice.
I remember the episode "Skeletons in the Closet" with much nostalgia because, as a child, you believe everything you see on TV, even when someone tells you that if you lie, a skeleton will appear in your closet.
Beetlejuice was my reason and my escape from the reality I was living in at that time. I lived far from my schoolmates, and during that first year, I hardly had any friends, so I had to invent imaginary ones to keep from feeling so alone.
Many times, I tried to summon Beetlejuice by saying his name three times, but nothing ever happened. Though I must admit, I did it with the fear that one day he might actually show up.
Beetlejuice, Lydia, Ginger, Jaques, and The Monster Across the Street were my companions, my friends, the ones who made me laugh when my real-life friends were no longer around.
I dreamed of visiting the Neitherworld, even just once, to have as much fun as Lydia did and to suppress the boredom, if only for a little while.
However, today I believe that all those unfulfilled dreams, lonely moments, and the teasing I endured made me who I am: a person full of hopes and goals, reserved about certain things, still with imaginary friends, eagerly waiting for the morning to get up and walk my dog, but happy enough to write this blog.
